Ahmed Mohamed Kathrada was one of the leaders of the non-racial, anti-apartheid struggle. Alongside Walter Sisulu, Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo, he spent almost three decades in prison, most of them on Robben Island. He launched the Release Mandela Campaign and was one of the first endorsers of the “Free Otegi, bring Basque prisoners home.”
Ahmed Kathrada passed away on March 28th, 2017 in Johannesburg, he was a friend of the Basque Country and he showed us his support in 2015 on the campaign for the release of Arnaldo Otegi and to bring Basque prisoners home.
On behalf of the Abertzale Left and all pro-independence left men and women of the Basque Country, we would like to extend our condolences to Ahmed Kathradaren relatives, friends and members of the ANC.
Agur eta Ohore Ahmed Kathrada!
